The American education system envisions an ideal in which young Americans leave home to attend college, where they earn degrees that launch them into careers. But the reality is starkly different, according to research by American Compass, which shows that our educational pipeline is failing on purpose and leaving most young people behind.
On June 2, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (Ranking Member, House Committee on Education and Labor) joined us for a 30 Minutes conversation to discuss how the education system can be retooled to better serve all Americans. Prior to her service in Congress, Rep. Foxx earned an Ed.D. from UNC-Greensboro, taught at Caldwell Community College and Appalachian State University, and served as president of Maryland Community College. In conversation with American Compass executive director Oren Cass, she discussed the importance of alternative post-high school career pathways, the future of higher education, and policy priorities for the coming year.
